Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2007

The International Architecture Triennale of Lisbon 2007, happening between May 31 st and July 31 st , aims to become a ‘Festival’ of architecture, participated by the local community and able to attract an international audience. In this initiative by the Architects’ Guild – South Region Section, where some of the most relevant authors and thinkers of today’s world will interact, Portuguese Architecture will be pretext for an important global forum dedicated to the reflection, debate, prospecting and display of Architecture, from the building to the city and territory planning. Architecture is one of the most vibrant fields of Culture in Portugal, with a wide international renown, attracting the attention of foreign public and press quite frequently, and considered as strategic sector for the affirmation of Portugal in the international context. This context has as main reference the figure of Álvaro Siza, winner of the most prestigious prize of world architecture – the Pritzker Prize 92, and as main motor a new emergent generation in Lisbon and Oporto, highly keen on disciplinary debate. This circumstance has allowed the establishment of interesting liaisons with the main centers of architectonic culture worldwide, which allow the Lisbon Architecture Triennale to become present in the ‘route’ of the great worldwide architecture events. For this, it is also important that, on the second semester of 2007, Portugal presides over the European Union Council. This I edition of the Triennale will coincide with the Portuguese Presidency, with whom it shares common work fronts. The international media coming to Lisbon to attend the presidency will be based at the Atlantic Pavilion, just a few meters from the Portugal Pavilion. In parallel, the Architecture Triennale was included in the Cultural Program of the Portuguese Presidency and has the High Sponsorship of the President of the Republic, Professor Aníbal Cavaco Silva.
