Second edition of the 2nd level Master Course in Designing for the historical city at the Federico II University of Naples September 2009 and will end in April 2010 Dipartimento di Progettazione Urbana e di Urbanistica Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II Via Forno Vecchio 36, Napoli LECTIO MAGISTRALIS VITTORIO GREGOTTI Giornate di studio Napoli-Ischia 29-31 ottobre 2009 The course is aimed at training designers (architects and engineers) to be capable of acting in historical urban contexts developing a way of working that combines theory and practice. The Master’s training course, moving from the history of architecture and the city and from the theories and techniques of design, develops and investigates ways of working in the historic city in relation to actual issues of contemporaneity and in search for possible relations between tradition and innovation. Assuming positions based on awareness and plausibility it looks at ways of designing the future of the historic city, but at the same time of avoiding the loss of the values and the memory it still brings forward. The activities of the Master’s course will be based on a cooperative agreement that involves “Federico II” University of Naples, the Italian Ministry of University, Education and Research, the Regional Government of Campania, AFM-Edilizia (Training and Managerial Association of Builders by the Italian Association of Building Contractors) and ACEN (Association of Neapolitan Building Contractors). The aim of the agreement is to offer the course students the chance to address within the educational programme atmosphere of increasing cultural openness and pragmatism the problematic issues posed by the building and construction sector. The Master’s course will begin in September 2009 and will end in April 2010. The following entrance require-ments are needed for enrole-ment: a degree awarded at the end of a five year course in architecture or civil engineering or managerial engineering. Foreign architectural students are encouraged to apply in order to establish in the master’s course as much as possible a fruitful integration and osmoses among different cultural contexts.
