The Tramway, The Exhibition

Paris and its diversity Pavillon de l'Arsenal Exhibition Dates 18/12/2008 > 1/3/2009 For the first time, an exhibition will present the Parisian tramway in its entirety from the section between Garigliano to the Porte d’Ivry to the current project to extend the tramway to the Porte de la Chapelle. With “The Tramway; the Exhibition”, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal would like to demonstrate the diversity of knowledge required to run the tramway including technical aesthetic performance, architectural and urban design aspirations which all unify to facilitate its users’ mobility and at the same time, leave its impression on the boulevards des Maréchaux in the heart of the city. The exhibition is designed as a walk along which visitors can stroll past the cityscape of seven Parisian arrondissements, cross the Seine and its canals, remark upon the striking architecture of select 20th century structures. It also explains the works currently in place to extend the line by giving a voice to the various architectural and urban design teams (Grumbach/Devigne, Devillers/Corajoud, Reichen et Robert & Associés/Peña & Pena) involved, allowing them to convey their vision of the project as well as the major spaces. Visitors are also given the opportunity to gain an understanding for the project’s origins and how it will be realised with a variety of media: videos of consultations with local residents, videos of the construction site* demonstrating the urban changes, the principles applied for green spaces including details on the species and planting, sketches from the practice Wilmotte/Arnaud de Bussière for the furnishing of the stations and other infrastructure.
