Today cities show great vitality, ability to implement revival strategies and experiment with new urban transformation policies (correction of imbalances, restoring areas in decay, urban and environmental quality promotion, services and employment opportunities), and are still Western society’s preferential place for growth. Genoa is one of these cities: after a difficult transition period it has concentrated its attention, projects and resources on recovering the waterfront and revitalizing the historic center as a way to promote the whole urban system.
