Dream cities, sustainable cities? - Paris
EXHIBITION JOINTLY PRODUCED BY THE EDF DIVERSITERRE FOUNDATION
AND THE CITY ON THE MOVE INSTITUTE
AT THE EDF FOUNDATION EXHIBITION SPACE
October 23, 2009 to march 7, 2010
Paris
- More than 87% of French people would like to live in a detached house. Yet cities exercise a strong attraction, in particular because they provide easy access to jobs, schools, shops and leisure activities. Immersing visitors in the dreams and counter-dreams of city dwellers, the exhibition explores the conflict between the desire for space and the attractions of centrality.
- Going to the heart of the public debate and our concerns as citizens, the exhibition offers the keys to an understanding of the challenges of tomorrow's cities. Beyond this sensory discovery of the plurality of the city and its dreams, it seeks to bring a better understanding of the concepts through which the city can be understood.
- What are the major challenges currently facing urban planning, and what are the new compromises they entail? How do we reconcile the urban aspirations of citizens and the imperatives of sustainable development?
