• ENTP European New Towns Platform Board meeting
Next ENTP board meeting will take place in Vantaa, Finland, on Tuesday the 11th of September, in the afternoon. It will be the opportunity for ENTP to take part in the events related to the 2012 World Capital of Design and organised by Helsinki together with Vantaa and Espoo.
ENTP board members will participate in the Seminar on Suburban design from the 12th to the 14th of September.
September 12 - 14, 2012
• Suburb Design Seminar
The seminar will be held on 12-14 September 2012 and it will focus on the development of the suburbs.
Suburbs and shopping centres are part of everyday life in Europe. The amount of urban residents living in suburbs is as high as 80%. After the Wars, lack of housing was tackled by building new, often monotonous, residential areas at a record-breaking speed. Now these areas have to be able to meet the residents' changed needs.
The seminar addresses urban planners, architects and everyone interested in suburban design and is part of the official World Design Capital 2012 programme.
The multiprofessional planning seminar Suburban Design approaches the functional development of suburbs in three cities of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area:
• Espoo: Garden city Tapiola in the new urban nucleus;
• Helsinki: Renewal of neighbourhoods with citizens;
• Vantaa: Suburban centres as living spaces;
The programme will include:
• Various site visits: New and old suburbs from Tapiola to Kartanonkoski
• Finnish and international lecturers: Joan Busquets, Kari Jormakka, Kristien Ring, etc.
• Workshops and discussions
