Cities worldwide are facing rapid social, economic, environmental, technological and cultural changes. Especially in times of economic crisis and demographic changes in cities, it is necessary to think about how to best handle what we have, and therefore “RE-MIXING THE CITY” is a challenge to manage and re-combine the elements which make our modern cities in order to better respond to change.
REAL CORP 2012 will offer the possibility to collectively discuss a wide range of topics in different panel groups and workshops.
The main topics and sections of the conference are related to the following themes:
• Can “mixed cities” be more sustainable and resilient?
• Living, working, learning, relaxing, enjoying, shopping - anything anywhere & anytime?
• Is it the purpose of spatial planning to “sort land uses in space”?
• Do the urban patterns and structure of our cities still meet the needs of the people in their everyday life?
• How do urban, transport and environmental technologies and solutions shape our cities?
• New faces, new approaches, new ideas – does and can migration re-mix the city?
• Time-space patterns of the 24/7 city
Others additional special topics dealt in the conference will be:
• Urban, Transport & Environmental Technologies and Solutions
• Urban Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)/intelligent urban environments
• Resilience, Safety & Security
REAL CORP conferences are held annually since 1996. About 500 experts from around the world from the fields of urban planning, transport planning, information and communication technologies, architecture, social and environmental sciences, real estate, GIS, surveying and remote sensing and more meet to discuss current tasks and topics on urban planning, regional development and information society in an international and extremely interdisciplinary conference. Conference languages are English and German. The International Conference REAL CORP is a platform for the presentation of corporations and businesses operating in the fields of information technology, planning, geodata, city models, simulations, spatial information systems, and others.
This year, our conference takes place together with CORP EXPO "Livable City". CORP EXPO offers you and your business an individual guidance to customize your personal preferences.
• A PARTICULAR ATTENTION GOES TO THE:
INTA INTERNATIONAL ROUNDTABLE "Have we reached a limit in making the city? Metropolisation of river basins - between threats and opportunities"
(14th and 15th of May)
This meeting is the first waypoint of our Community of Competence on Metropolisation. The one-day meeting will be hosted by the International Real Corp International Conference focusing this year on RE-MIXING THE CITY TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE? held in Schwechat, in the suburb of Vienna.
The roundtable will address the following topics for the discussion:
1. Governance of the disparity of development along a "river" region
2. Environment: have we reached a limit in the urbanisation and metropolisation of our territories?
3. Infrastructure-led urban and metropolitan developments along water corridors
4. Social development: is there a logic, or a natural process, at work when urbanisation switches into metropolisation?
More info on the roundtable could be found in the flyer, downloadable above
