Sustainable tools, strategies and projects for transforming landscapes
[i][b]International Conference[/b][/i] 6th-7th October 2005 Sala Rossa - ex i.r.fo.p., Scala dei Cappuccini 1, Trieste On October 6th and 7th 2005 Trieste will host, at Sala Rossa - ex i.r.fo.p. (Scala dei Cappuccini 1), the International Conference Sustainable tools, strategies and projects for transforming landscapes, organized by the Central Direction of Environment and Public Works of the Region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the Department of Architectural and Urban Design-DPAU of the University of Trieste, in collaboration with the Science and Research Center of Koper-zrs of the University of Primorska, the Faculties of Architecture of Trieste and Ljubljana, the Italian Society of Town Planners-SIU. The meeting represents the occasion to show the final outputs of the research Sustainable settlement models and typologies for Italy-Slovenia cross-border territories, coordinated by the DPAU within the EU Interreg IIIA program; moreover, it aims at promoting a wider debate on recent experiences of governance and spatial planning of cities and territories, which have focused on the plural dimensions - environmental, cultural, social and economic - of sustainable development. With the intent to investigate the multiplicity of meanings of this concept, and the different scales and questions it involves for contemporary spatial design, the Conference is organized into four sessions, which are dedicated to the description of research projects and case studies produced in different European Countries. On October 6th the first session, Cross-border landscapes, illustrates EU programmes and projects for integrated and sustainable development of transnational regions, and in particular of the territories across Italy, Austria and Slovenia; the second and the third sessions, Territories and Cities, propose reflections on policies and projects oriented towards the preservation and the enhancement of environmental and cultural resources of the territory, the reorganization and the arrangement into a system of the different components of urban landscape. On October 7th the fourth session, Urban districts, deals with issues referring to the upgrading and the renewal of parts of the city, and specifically of public housing and distressed areas; the fifth, Policies and tools, finally focuses discussion on the results of innovative experiences for sustainable planning, design and management of building, urban and territorial resources.
