KulturBahnhof Kassel, Südflügel, Bahnhofsplatz 1, 34117 Kassel Opening: 16 June, 7 p.m. Exhibition dates: 16/6 – 23/9/2007 Opening hours: Tue – Sun, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Introduction: Georg Schöllhammer, Director documenta 12 magazines Beatriz Colomina, Director Clip/Stamp/Fold, Princeton University Nikolaus Kuhnert and Anh-Linh Ngo, archplus A central undertaking of this year's documenta is the project documenta 12 magazines. An international selection of 90 culturally engaged media organizations has been invited to set up an editorial network on the glocal principle (local expertise linked with global perspectives) in order to discuss the leitmotifs of documenta 12: modernity, life, and education. With its expertise as a discourse-oriented architectural magazine, archplus takes up the question of the possibilities for contemporary aesthetic education and communication in the project “The Making of Your Magazines” (TMoYM). What role does the editing of critical magazines have, given the digital omnipresence of networked knowledge? Which forms of communicating knowledge do magazines pursue in order to explore socially-relevant architectural problems? A two-part exhibition frames the project and points up the potential of critical architectural magazines as mediators between architecture, cultural discourse, politics and society. While the exhibition “Clip/Stamp/Fold. The Radical Architecture of Little Magazines 196x-197x” (curated by Beatriz Colomina and the Clip/Stamp/Fold Team/Princeton University) brings vividly to life the radicality and intensity of publishing activities during the 1960s and 1970s, a mapping of the discourses over the last 40 years in archplus contextualised an “office landscape” which enables participation by invited editors and visitors.
