The Summer School is organized in a design workshop and a series of thematic conferences in which different disciplinary contributions will be considered and useful for the development of research methodologies, with lecturers, designers and scholars of international relevance.
Design experiment, developed in Mantua urban context, will be conducted by design groups supervised by Tutors and Guest Professors. Design activity will be verified during an intermediate and a final review by boards consisting of Architects and Professors, by representatives of Politecnico di Milano and Mantua Municipal Administration.
TOPIC
The International Summer School aims to open a research focused on the relationship between heritage and project, or rather the relationship between architectural and landscape pre-existing conditions in historically multi-layered environments, and interventions of requalification and urban renewal. The inclusion of new urban functions and new architectural structure in the case-studies, will address the relationship among conservation, adaptation, transformation in order to enhance the built heritage.
The urban case-studies will be chosen in collaboration with Mantua Municipality, and will focus on three emblematic contexts of the Mantua historical and modern transformation: the area located north of Piazza Sordello in relationship with the monumental area and the Lago di Mezzo southern shore; the area between Palazzo Te and the sports facilities, as a new opportunity for open space on the edge of the compact city; a part of the area of Piano Particolareggiato ex-Fiera Catena, in the definition of the eastern edge of the historic fabric.
