Thematic Group on Planning and Complexity

Workshop Milan, 22 - 23 February 2008 (22nd afternoon and 23rd morning) Politecnico di Milano Dipartimento di Architettura e Pianificazione The aim of the group ( www.aesop-planning.com/Groups_webpages/COMPLEX) is to contribute to the creation and maintenance of a network of lecturers and researchers, who are willing to explore and debate new developments influencing both planning theory and practice in the light of complexity, complexity thinking and complex systems. After the previous workshops dedicated to explore the theory of complexity (Vienna, Reading, Cardiff, Mexico City, Cambridge), the relationships between complexity and planning (Stuttgart) the focus of the workshop in Milan will be prevalently the one of methods and tools, which are able to support the treatment of complex systems in the field of planning. Therefore particularly appreciated are contributions such as: - the role and the applicative procedures of the new computerised technologies for treatment of complex systems in the field of planning; - epistemological reflections on the use of models for complexity in planning field; - new applications and tools developed in the light of complexity and planning; - interdisciplinary approaches regarding planning and decision-making in the light of complexity science; - … - and more in general all the problems concerning the management of relationships between complexity and planning.
